Thank you for your interest in The Wood Memorial Library & Museum’s Educational Programs. Our programs are designed to meet — and exceed — the State of Connecticut’s Common Core Standards and the Connecticut Elementary and Secondary Social Studies Frameworks. Not only do The Wood’s educational offerings cover an array of Social Studies topics, but many of our programs, such as those covering Anthropology (social sciences) as well as our Ethnobotanical Wetland Walk and Archaeology Lab, fall under the STEM discipline. Our inquiry based, hands-on offerings challenge students to intellectually delve into, and think critically, about the rich history of the central Connecticut River Valley region.
The Wood’s rigorous academic programs focus on the history of South Windsor’s First People, commonly known as the Podunk Tribe, as well as its industrious colonial settlers. Students learn how South Windsor’s original residents survived, thrived, worked — and played — dating back approximately 6,000 years! Programs take place both at on- and off-site locations in South Windsor.
Our educational programs are available for pre-k through grade 12 students; college students; senior groups; as well as adults, social and corporate groups.
