1916-Tobacco labor journal
Growers recorded earning for farm labor in journals like this one, opened to a page from 1916. Here we see three different groups of workers: sizers, sorter, and laborers. It shows that sizers and sorters were paid 1.25 cents per piece and laborers somewhere between 15 and 30 cents per hour. Working a full 60-hour week, a person performing one of these jobs could earn in the range of $10 to $15, which is roughly equal to $250 to $370 today.
