All Book Clubs are accepting New Members.

Join the Chat and Chew Book Club! This book club reads and discusses books with recipes or food references. Each attendee makes a dish from, or inspired by, the book to share. This book club is facilitated by Cynde Acanto of BOOK CLUB On the Go.

Join the monthly Stephen King Book Club! Facilitated by local author Jessica Bottomley, this book club meets the third Thursday of the month and, as the name suggests, reads and discusses books written by Stephen King! This book club is held alternately at Wood Memorial Library & Red Heat Tavern.

 Gail Ward Olmstead “Landscape of a Marriage: Central Park Was Only the Beginning”

 Author Gail Ward Olmsted will talk about her new historical fiction novel "Landscape of a Marriage", which will be available for purchase.  Learn about Hartford born, park designer, Fredrick Law Olmsted and “the Olmsted effect” during this 45 min. presentation followed by Q&A. Explore the impact his parks have made, along with  some little-known facts on Fredrick Olmsted and Central Park. Co-sponsored with Book Club on the Go. (Snow date of 01-20-22)

More Program Collaborations

The Friends and South Windsor Historical Society are co-sponsoring a calendar of 11 programs with connections to local history. All programs are held at Wood Memorial Library unless otherwise noted.

We are also collaborating with South Windsor Historical Society to bring you video interviews with South Windsor residents, completed by John Mason, available through our online learning marketplace.

Program fees: Friends and Society members pay $5; non-members pay $7.

January 23, 2022 at 2 pm- Chris Doucot, 66, a pastor and pacifist, and his wife, Jackie Allen-Doucot, are co-founders of the Hartford Catholic Worker, a North Hartford social justice organization. In addition to their local work, the couple does humanitarian work abroad. Chris will speak about their travels and, specifically about how war affects civilians in foreign countries.
