Native American Heritage Month

Village Vocabulary

Did you see our email announcement on Indigenous Peoples Day last month?
We're excited to share a new feature on our website, that will continue to grow with time.  We call it "Village Vocabulary" and it is an online glossary of terms related to Native American heritage, or used in our educational programs.  You can find it under the Education tab here. Do you have a word you would like us to include, or heard something used in one of our emails or programs that you need clarification on?  There is an option to submit an entry right on the same page!

Online Field Trips and More

We are pleased to announce that we are in the early stages of booking online field trips on Native American heritage!  As reported last month, thanks to the generous support of donors and grants, our staff has been vigorously working on reinterpreting Nowashe Village into online educational programs for all audiences.

The first module that will be available is Native American Storytelling, which includes an overview and your choice of stories, all told by native peoples and accompanied by downloadable teaching aids.  Individual craft projects that complement one of the stories are also available for an additional cost.  This module is suitable for all ages!

We will have two online programs for adults available this winter as well.  Additional "field trip" modules will be available soon.  Whether you are a teacher, community leader or home school instructor, all of our programs are customizable for your audience, time constraints or budget.  For more information, please contact Liz Glaviano.

Join in the fun! Be a part of a Picture Perfect Holiday!

We rely on a huge number of volunteers to make this festival possible.  This year, volunteers are needed in the weeks leading up the festival for staging & decorating the window spaces and on Monday, January 4, 2021 when we breakdown the spaces.  Please contact us to get involved!

There is still time to register your gingerbread masterpiece. But don't delay as you must register your house, no later than Friday, November 6th.

Victorian Gossip Girl: Annie Adams Fields by History At Play™, LLC

December 3, 2020
7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Mrs. Fields has incredible influence on literary decisions at Ticknor and Fields Publishing House (the forerunner to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company) and a great ear for gossip!

We are happy to welcome back History At Play™, LLC Artistic Director, Judith Kalaora, for this LIVESTREAM online performance.

This hour-long program features the life and observations of the American literary scout and philanthropist Annie Fields. She was married to James T. Fields; one of the founders of Ticknor and Fields Publishing House – now known as Houghton-Mifflin Publishing, based in Boston, Massachusetts.  The program features anecdotes regarding the major Transcendentalist literary masters, including Nathaniel Hawthorne, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Charles Dickens, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Harriet Beecher Stowe, and more.

The program is appropriate for all ages, and will be followed by Real-Time Audience Q&A with Judith Kalaora.  This is a program that is especially well-suited for livestream events.
