Tree Removal at the Wood
You may have noticed a lot of tree removal around Wood Memorial Library & Museum! While we’re sorry to see these beauties leave us, it’s all for good reasons. |
The trees shading the south side of the building were removed to protect the new driveway and parking lot and to allow us to better connect the parking lot to the elevator entrance. The goal is to improve wheelchair accessibility and to make this entryway attractive and welcoming.
The Shagbark Maple tree on the front lawn that came down on April 30, 2021 was one of many planted up and down Main Street after the disastrous 1938 hurricane. These trees have wonderful fall foliage and have contributed to many spectacular leaf seasons on Main Street! Sadly, many of these Shagbarks are reaching the end of their normal lifespan and are becoming dangerous. It will be replaced as part of the ongoing efforts to improve the grounds around the library.

More information on the planned beautification of Wood’s grounds and entryways will be available in the coming months. Questions can be directed to the Wood Memorial Library Association, trustee of the Wood Memorial Library Trust, which owns the building and grounds. |
