If you have not had the time to visit Nowashe Village yet, we are offering a lot of great programs in August that are included with your admission. East Coast Seasonal Living and Shelter Development in the Woodland Period with Andrew Smith (Shinnecock/Montauk/Unkechaug Tribal Nations) will be highlighted on August 7th, and you can Learn About Pollinators with Nowashe Educator Judith Dreyer on August 14th. We have the Importance of Waterways in Indigenous Life with Dylan Smith and Stone Tool Technology with Jim Dina both on August 21st and on August 28th, we revisit the Importance of Waterways in Indigenous Life with Education Director, Liz Glaviano.
Nowashe Village will be participating in the Connecticut Summer at the Museum program from July 1 to September 6, 2021. All Connecticut children age 18 and under – plus one accompanying adult – will receive free admission to Nowashe Village!

Admission to Nowashe Village always includes a multimedia self-guided tour, featured Native American artifacts, an explorer activity for children, and stationed docents ready to answer your questions. On many days, Nowashe Village also plays host to Indigenous artisans who bring various hand crafted items available for purchase. Please visit our calendar often for updates and a more detailed look at what each Saturday has to offer!

Welcome New Board Members!
The Friends' Board of Directors is excited to welcome three new members, Ann-Marie Germano Michael Giannamore, and Jamie Howe. Ann-Marie has been extensively involved in South Windsor MOMS Club and at Pleasant Valley Elementary School over the past decade. Combined with a professional background at The Hartford and others, Ann-Marie will bring a variety of expertise to the board. Michael lives on Main Street in an 180+ year old home and brings 25+ years experience managing a family business, Aqua Pool & Patio Inc. First, as an intern with The Friends, then as a publicity assistant, Jamie Howe brings both youth and experience to the board! Welcome to all!

Meet Melissa!
The Friends are excited to welcome a new communications intern, Melissa Tremblay. She is a senior at Emmanuel College in Boston, MA, working towards a bachelor's degree in writing, editing, and publishing. Melissa is very excited to be helping out and gaining experience with us! Thursday, August 5, 2021 6-7 pm Front Lawn of Wood Memorial Library
This free author event, co-hosted with Book Club On the Go, will take place on the front lawn of Wood Memorial Library and Museum. New York Times recognized author, Emily Arsenault, will be in discussion with interviewer John Valeri about her newest novel, When All the Girls are Sleeping. Feel free to bring blankets, chairs, and food for yourselves if you would like, if not chairs can be provided for you.

We are excited to welcome back anthropologist and Nowashe educator, Drew Shuptar-Rayvis (Pocomoke) as he teaches flint knapping to visitors ages 8 and up. Explore how Indigenous People shaped stones and other natural objects into tools? Learn how to make your very own projectile point using naturally occurring tools and percussion techniques.
The fees for this Explore More program are $20/adults and $15/students. Registration in advance is recommended. |
