October is National Archives Month and We are Busy!
A comprehensive inventory of the collections is underway by volunteers Ginny Macro, Linda Sunderland, Fran Nadaeu, and Julie Runkel. Supported by funding from the Connecticut State Library’s Traveling Archivists program, the volunteers, working in two teams of two, are systematically examining the collections and objects in the archival storage areas and throughout the building and recording key information, such as accession number, description, location, and dates, in Excel spreadsheets.
When completed, the spreadsheets will be combined to produce a master list of all our holdings. In the short term, we will have an updated item location list, and for longer term planning, we will be able to look at the reallocation of space, collocate separated collections, and establish priorities for future processing and description projects. The teams are making good progress, and we expect to have the initial inventory finished by the end of fall. |
