South Windsor’s Contributions to Space Panel Discussion
It’s 1962. The stars, the Moon, and the entire galaxy seem as far away from South Windsor
as putting a human in space, among the dark, intrepid unknown. Gazing into its depths
has become your new pastime. Halfway across town however, a group of engineers from Pratt & Whitney have devoted their pastimes to reaching space. Partnered with NASA, a group of several engineers signed onto what was supposed to be a three-week project in developing fuel cells for the Apollo missions. Their next eight years would define not only their careers, but the ambitions of America as a whole in a rapid race to perfect this new, breakthrough technology.
Visit and discover the work of countless local South Windsor engineers and NASA employees as we take a retrospective look through untold history gathered from newspapers, interviews, and more. This exhibit is the culmination of countless hours of research spearheaded by Friend’s volunteer Ria Saxena and involving documents and objects both donated and on loan from the Joseph A. Bost Collection of UTC Fuel Cell Papers, Vicky and Paul Margiott, and Friends’ Board Member Henry Cote. This panel discussion opens the accompanying exhibit focusing on South Windsor’s Contributions to Space. This program series is sponsored by Astro Chemicals.
Doors open at 2pm. Panel Discussion will take place from 3pm-4pm. Reception with light refreshments will be available 2pm-5pm.
