2nd Annual Artifact Identification Day
Artifact Identification: Celebrate Nowashe’s 2nd annual artifact identification day, with former Connecticut State Archaeologist and renowned author, Dr. Nick Bellantoni; and Friends of the Office of State Archaeology (FOSA) President, Scott Brady. Bring in up to 3 artifacts per person and our experts will identify and approximate the date(s) of your artifacts. If you don’t have artifacts of your own to identify, make sure to pop by to see what’s been discovered!
Stone Tools: Lead Docent Maureen Bourne will be presenting Stone Tool Use through time, beginning in the Paleo Period, some 12,500 years ago, traversing through the Archaic, and ending in the Pre-Contact period. Perhaps one of your artifacts falls into one of these time periods! Learn more about how it was used!
Featured Artifact: This week’s display will feature a rare pink quartz ceremonial point, copper ingots, a Paleo hand axe, hide scrapers and Archaic Period spear points.
Admission to Nowashe Village always includes a multimedia self-guided tour on your personal electronic device, a look at a special Native American artifact, Explorer activity for the kids and stationed docents ready to answer your questions.
