After the Town of South Windsor was incorporated in 1845, the Town was without a central hall for almost seventy years. Town meetings were held in the basements of the churches. There was no center for Town records. In 1912, it was decided at a Town meeting to build a Town Hall opposite the post office on Main Street. The hall was used for its first Town meeting on January 6, 1914. After the construction of the newer, larger Town Hall in 1969, the old Town Hall was demolished. A private home now exists where it once stood.
