39. South Windsor Swim and Tennis Club

By Mrs. Joan Thompson

In 1972, the South Windsor Swim and Tennis Club was established to provide a place of family recreation.  Over 125 families enjoy the swimming and tennis facilities that are located on Ellington Road.  The modern clubhouse was designed by a local citizen, Don Clark.  The club members provided much of the labor in building the clubhouse as well as improving the grounds.  A yearly “work day” is held each spring when club members maintain this beautiful facility.  American Red Cross safety instruction and a competitive swim team are sponsored by the club.

Please note that despite possible inaccuracies, we will include the description of each quilt square as published in the 1995 revised and corrected second edition booklet. This second edition was published in celebration of South Windsor’s “sesquicentennial” anniversary, 1845-1995, and was dedicated to the memory of Gail Woodard, who passed away in 1994. The revised edition was compiled by Charles E. Woodward in September, 1995, with the assistance of Doris Burgdorf who provided many historical corrections.
